SINUS AUGMENTATION
(growing bone upper posterior jaw)

Many patients have insufficient quantity of bone in the upper posterior jaw in which to place implants.

Dr. Poulos has successfully performed hundreds of sinus augmentation grafts growing new bone. This makes it possible to place dental implants in the upper posterior areas of the jaw to support fixed crowns and bridges.

Case Studies

Patient A

1)    Before treatment – Insufficient bone thickness for implants needed in area #14 and 15.
Sinus augmentation planned to regenerate the necessary bone to support implants.

2)    After treatment, same patient as above.  X-ray illustrates implants placed in sites #14 and 15 supported by new bone growth achieved with a sinus augmentation bone graft. Implants were also placed to replace the missing lower teeth with fixed bridges.

3) Same patient of x-rays shown above. Natural smile – after treatment with fixed crowns and bridges, implant supported.

4) Natural smile – after treatment with fixed crowns and bridges, implant supported.

5) Natural smile – after treatment with fixed crowns and bridges, implant supported.

Patient B

1) Before treatment, x-ray illustrates insufficient bone thickness in the upper left area to place implants to support fixed crowns.  A sinus augmentation bone graft is planned to regenerate new bone.
The upper right posterior area illustrates the final fixed crowns attached to implants. This area was also treated with a sinus augmentation bone graft to allow for the successful placement of implants.

2)    After treatment, same patient -  x-ray illustrates new bone growth in the upper left posterior area following a sinus augmentation bone graft. Implants can now be placed to support fixed crowns.

Patient C

1) Before treatment – X-ray illustrates insufficient bone thickness in upper arch to place dental implants. Patient wearing upper and lower dentures for past 30 years, dentures to be eliminated. Surgical guide on lower arch in preparation to place implants.

2) After treatment, upper arch illustrates new bone regeneration from a sinus augmentation bone graft. X-ray illustrates implants on lower arch with final fixed bridges.
Lower dentures eliminated.

3) Same patient – Implants have been placed in the upper right, upper left posterior areas after bone regeneration from sinus augmentation.
Upper implants in healing stage before final crown and bridge can be completed similar to the lower arch. Dentures will be eliminated.

4)    Photo lower fixed bridges attached to implants shown in above x-rays 1-3).Lower denture eliminated.
