First Visit Expectations

We are happy you have chosen us to help you. At your first appointment, a careful, gentle and complete periodontal examination will be performed.

During this one-hour examination, Dr. Poulos:

  • Takes X-rays (if needed)
  • Takes impressions for study models (if needed)
  • Performs an oral cancer screen
  • Discusses diagnosis and possible treatment options
  • Answers any questions or concerns you may have

Note: For complex cases, a second consultation is necessary following Dr. Poulos’ meeting with your dentist to develop your treatment plan.

Scheduling

Dr. Poulos is available Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We schedule your appointments as promptly as possible. If you have pain or an emergency situation, every attempt is made to see you that day.

We try to stay on schedule to minimize waiting at the time of your appointment. However, some surgical procedures can take more time to complete than anticipated, or referral of emergency patients can cause delays to the schedule. Your understanding and patience are very much appreciated.

We appreciate your assistance at the time of your initial visit to the office by providing the following information:

  • Your referral slip and x-rays from your referring dentist. If your referring dentist has taken x-rays, you may contact your dentist to request that they be forwarded to us.
  • A list of medications you are currently taking (please note that we will mail you a patient registration and medical history form to fill out in advance of your appointment).
  • If you have dental insurance, please bring any forms or insurance cards with you to the appointment.
  • Please notify the office if you have a medical condition or concern prior to surgery (e.g. artificial heart valves or joints, heart murmurs requiring premedication, severe diabetes, or hypertension).

Please Note: All patients under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation appointment.
